On December 12, 2003, companies and business associations from across the Washington DC Metropolitan region gathered to discuss and gain a better understanding of the role Corporate Responsibility (CR) could play in building better businesses and more sustainable communities. As participants shared their ideas and began to identify ways of developing and implementing more effective partnerships and strategies, consensus built around the idea of a network of like-minded organizations raising awareness, developing and sharing a base of CR knowledge and practice, and promoting a business model focused on people, profits, and planet. The Sustainable Business Network of Washington (SB NOW) was born.
