In 2007, Atayne (http://www.atayne.com/) won a William James Foundation Award, and just this summer Atayne launched a portion of their apparel line. Atayne is a new brand of environmentally-friendly, high-performance athletic apparel. The Atayne line is made from 100% recycled materials (recycled polyester) and uses natural alternatives (Cocona) as opposed to the harsh chemicals used to enhance most performance fabrics, as many of these chemicals are known to be carcinogenic.
The mission of Atayne is to use the power of sports to drive positive environmental and social change. Additionally, Atayne is launching an innovative garment take-back program to prevent still usable, but unwanted performance materials from going into a landfill. The program will allow consumers to submit any brand of polyester-based performance garment. For submitting their garment, Atayne will provide consumers a credit toward the purchase of a new Atayne item. The garments will be used to make eco-friendly products such as sport bags or they will be put into the industrial recycling process to make new performance fabric.
